How safe a grab bar truly is depends on how tightly the person using it can hang onto its surface, and the Bobrick B-6806.99x30 Concealed Mounting with Snap Flange Grab Bar is finished with a peened gripping surface to allow for a tight grip, even if a person has limited mobility. Type-304, 18-gauge stainless steel is used to create the bar, which measures 30 inches in length by 1-1/2 inches in diameter. With 1-1/2 inches of clearance from the mounting surface, the grab bar bears up to 900 pounds of weight. Fully compliant with ADA and other barrier-free accessibility guidelines, the bar can withstand 250 pounds of weight with any other amount of clearance. The grab bar fastens securely to the wall or other mounting surface with two 1/8-inch thick stainless steel plates. To conceal the mounting hardware and minimize the risk for vandalism and tampering, a snap-on stainless steel cover is fitted over each plate.
